|Hutchison, 51, and Stodden, 16, are married (via E! Online)|
While I am not against people of different ages marrying, I can't help but gasp at their union. She is practically a child, and he is taking advantage of her naivety (maybe she is in love with him) and/or perhaps ambition (or maybe she is trying to make headlines to further her career). Regardless, she is just 16 years old and has not had the chance to figure out what or who she wants in life. She is too young to vote, too young to play the lottery, and barely old enough to drive.
Stories like this really irk me because straight people often take marriage for granted. They often marry pre-maturely or for the wrong reasons, but I wouldn't have a problem with that if every adult could marry. The fact that a 16-year-old child can marry a 51-year-old man in Las Vegas and a gay person can't marry the person they have been with for 20 years is extremely illogical.
What do you think? Should people be congratulating them?
