This is a blog about LGBT issues, but I just want to take a quick moment to reflect about the situation in Iran. The disputed election between an incumbent dictator-like leader and a reformist leader has drawn immense protests in Iran. The government has blocked international journalists, tried to shut down internet sites like Facebook and Twitter, and has actually shot people who were taking pictures. They have tried to make the situation look smaller than it is, even though millions of people are protesting after more than a week. I am saddened but also proud that this is happening. People are standing up for democracy. They know how much it means to be able to choose how you live.
Just to tie this story in to LGBT issues, Ahmadinejad, Iran's current leader, believes that Iran has zero gay people. Watch the video of his anti-gay comments after the jump.
