A 6th Grader Not Allowed To Give A Presentation On Harvey Milk Because He Was Gay

A 6th grader in Palmoa, CA was prohibited from giving a class presentation on Harvey Milk because of the school's policy to notify parents before presentations are given about "human reproductive organs and their functions, processes, or sexually transmitted diseases" as well as "family life, human sexuality, AIDS, or sexually transmitted diseases." Natalie Jones, the student, was inspired to do a project on Milk after watching the Oscar-winning film starring Sean Penn. The ACLU has filed a formal complaint demanding an apology from the school and a clarification of the school's policy.

The girl's mom said it best: "To say my daughter's presentation is 'sex education' because Harvey Milk happened to be gay is completely wrong."

  2. I have to agree with Rachel...it's just wrong ...and sends the wrong message to people - young and old alike
